--------------------------- Apologies for multiple emails

Dear colleagues,

We are looking for exceptional and highly motivated candidates for a
full-time fixed-term research position to join the PRISCA lab at the
University of Naples Federico II in the Department of Electrical
Engineering and Information Technologies.

The researcher will work on the COllaborative HiErarchical Robotic
ExplaNaTions (COHERENT) that is a CHIST-ERA
https://www.chistera.eu/sites/www.chistera.eu/files/CHIST-ERA%20Call%202019%20-%20XAI%20Topic%20-%20COHERENT%202022.pdf
project supported by the European Union in collaboration between the
University of Naples Federico II (Italy), the Ag. E. Consejo Superior de
Investigaciones Científicas (Spain) and King’s College London (UK).

The goal of the project is to develop a novel framework to combine
explanations at the different robotic levels to build trustable robots for
collaborative and cooperative interactions with people. In this project, we
investigate how to make robots able to effectively communicate decisions
during the execution of the task and re-plan according to new user inputs
or unforeseen situations in real-time along with the execution. Moreover,
one of the objectives of the COHERENT project is to establish measures for
the effectiveness of explanations through user studies and define assistive
tasks to test our explainable methods, creating clear and reproducible
protocols.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD degree, a master degree in computer science, AI,
robotics, or equivalent research experience in robotics, computer science
or relevant field.

The candidates must have: strong background in programming with different
languages (including C/C++, Python); be capable to designing and conduct
human-robot studies; experience with both qualitative and quantitative
methods; attitude to problem-solving; be strongly motivated for team
working; very good scientific writing and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications: collecting data, analysing data, conducting
literature reviews and scientific track record, writing up academic
publications; experience with the robotic frameworks ROS 1 and ROS 2;
strong experience with different robots (humanoid and non-humanoid);
background in computer vision, machine learning, neural networks,
personalisation applied to robotics.

Starting date

Due to project constraints, the position needs to start by the end of
December 2022.

Pay grade (depending on qualifications and seniority)

24000 - 30000 euro for year

Deadline and how to apply

Please send your application (with cover letter, curriculum vitae, relevant
certificates and publications, and the names and contact of at least one
referee) by e-mail in a single PDF file to Prof. Silvia Rossi at
silvia.rossi@unina.it including in the object [COHERENT position] by 30
November 2022.
