Dear all,
We are pleased to announce an extended submission deadline for our workshop “Failing Forward: Design and Deployment Lessons from Real-World Human-Robot Interaction”, held at HRI 2026 on 16 March 2026 in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.
📆 New submission deadline: 22 February 2026, Acceptance notification: 2 March 2026
This in-person, half-day workshop invites researchers and practitioners to share design and deployment lessons from real-world HRI. We particularly encourage contributions reflecting on challenges, failures, and unexpected outcomes — because what didn’t work is often just as valuable as what did.
The workshop will feature interactive sessions structured around a taxonomy of key phases in field deployment and the major factors influencing success and failure. Participants will collaboratively refine this taxonomy, which we plan to release as an open-source tool to support future real-world HRI research and practice.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
• Human unpredictability, stakeholder alignment, and cultural/social factors
• Robust perception and planning under uncertainty
• Error detection, recovery, prevention, and trust repair
• Long-term, in-situ evaluation and data quality challenges
• Governance, safety, privacy, and ethical frameworks
We invite submissions of 1-4 pages describing deployment experiences. Accepted authors are expected to present a poster during the workshop. With consent, papers and posters will be published on the workshop website.
Submissions should follow the HRI 2026 Late-Breaking Reports format and be submitted via EasyChair.

We look forward to your contributions and to collectively advancing real-world HRI by learning from failure.
Best regards,
