Dear colleagues,

Apologies for cross-posting – we’re sharing this widely across communities to ensure it reaches all who might be interested.

We believe that sharing what didn’t work is just as valuable as what did.

That’s why we warmly invite you to contribute to our upcoming workshop: “Real-World HRI in Public and Private Spaces: Successes, Failures, and Lessons Learned (PubRob-Fails 2025)”,
taking place at IEEE RO-MAN 2025 on 29 August 2025 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

This workshop provides a space for open, honest discussion about the real-world deployment of robots — where environments are unpredictable, social contexts are complex, and the best-laid plans often go sideways.
We especially welcome contributions that reflect on failures, surprises, and lessons that rarely make it into traditional papers.

📝 Submission deadline: 15 June 2025
🌐 Workshop website: https://www.pubrob.org/events/2025

🔎 What to Expect
Keynote talks from leading HRI researchers
Lightning talks, panel discussions, and group reflections
Interactive sessions on lessons learned and failure stories, and cultural change in HRI
In-person only – to support open and candid conversations about challenges and setbacks

📣 Call for Papers – Topics include (but are not limited to):
Technical & Design Challenges (e.g., perception, interaction, error recovery)
Real-world Deployments in public/private spaces, schools, hospitals, homes, …
Ethics & Social Dimensions (e.g., acceptance, trust, consent, cultural contexts)
Meta-reflections on methodological limitations, failures, and transparency

We accept two types of submissions:
Full Papers (4–6 pages): considered for oral presentations
Short Papers / Failure Reports (2–4 pages): considered for posters

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mary Ellen Foster, MaryEllen.Foster@glasgow.ac.uk mailto:MaryEllen.Foster@glasgow.ac.uk  or Ana Müller, ana.mueller@th-koeln.de mailto:ana.mueller@th-koeln.de

We’re looking forward to your submissions and your stories – especially the messy ones.

Warm regards,

Mary Ellen, Ana & the PubRob-Fails 2025 Organising Committee
